NOW OPEN | ARCADE SHOWROOM

Celebrating the historic charm of the building’s previous life, we have opened the doors to ARCADE: a re-envisioned retail space and flagship showroom for Lock & Mortice and Matthew McCormick Studio in our hometown of Vancouver.

THE LOCATION:

With walls steeped in stories and layered in legacy, ARCADE occupies Gastown’s Le Magasin building - the city’s first shopping arcade built at the turn of the 20th century. A concept originating in Europe centuries prior, the opulent grandeur and the aspirational joys of window shopping grew in popularity as communities gathered under beautiful, arch covered shopping districts over coffee and conversation. Over time, the shopping arcade was so much more than a transactional buy and sell: they evolved into highly curated, top- shelf shopping experiences for the discerning customer in search of a memorable moment, tucked away from the hustle of daily life.

Arcade Showroom in Vancouver

“Valued for its architectural design and its association with Stuart and White, who practiced briefly in Vancouver during the Edwardian boom era, the structure of Arcade was designed to accommodate additional storeys if expansion was required. This never occurred due to the collapse of the local economy.

Its use as a retail arcade continued for many years. In the 1980s, the Arcade was rehabilitated as ‘Le Magasin,’ and the building continues to serve its historic function.”
